"Placid Thoughts" "From Inside Her Eyelids"
An exhibition capturing the complexities of feminine identity
Opens: August 4, 2023
Member Opening on August 3.
“Placid Thoughts” explores the breadth and evolution of Anna Warfield’s art practice over the last ten years. From sketches, objects, books, failed and early artworks everything is loosely connected through the apparent interest in relearning and questioning identity as an adult. This peek behind the curtain invites the viewer in for a raw look at Warfield’s creative process.
With “From Inside Her Eyelids” Warfield contributes to a larger conversation about the complexities in feminine identities through her text-based soft sculptures. She controls space, builds on the history of women’s work, and uses femme aesthetics to embolden the conversation presented.
Anna Warfield Artist Statement:
Anna Warfield is a Binghamton, New York based artist. She creates text-based soft sculptures from fabric. Like concrete poems in physical space, the form and text work together to create meaning. She engages with ideas related to the body, sexuality, Femininity, and relearning. Her artwork builds on a rich history of textiles as “women’s work,” and confronts the complexities of Feminine identity and expression.
