Focus on Nature

Common Octopus Emily Kearny-Williams Pen and ink on clay-board, 2017

On view July 21 – January 20, 2020

Roberson is pleased to host the 15th Focus on Nature exhibition in collaboration with the New York State Museum. Experience the depth of nature through these vibrant and dynamic contemporary natural history illustrations in this biennial, international, juried show.

Where Nature’s Best Photography brought viewers rare scenes from the natural world, Focus on Nature is a unique and intimate study of life on Earth.

This exhibition has been running for over 30 years, and in that time 448 artists have shown their work. This year more than 60 of these studies of nature will be on view at Roberson.

There’s also an underlying story many of the artists are presenting within their pieces, and it’s one of struggle and survival. Human activity has presented challenges for many of the creatures featured in this exhibition—challenges they are not equipped to overcome.
