First Friday at Roberson

October 1, 2021 @ 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Free – $4

Roberson Museum will be abuzz this First Friday for one closing reception and two exhibition openings!

We are sad to say goodbye to the vibrant and surreal “Word and Image: The Art of Jules Gotay.” The artist will be present from 5PM to 7PM to talk about his art with visitors.

There will also be a public opening celebrating the lives and work of rural women in “Memories of Braided Lives.” Through quilts, this exhibition seeks to showcase the significance of self-expression in lives for women devoted to domestic industry.

We are honored to host the “Hostile Terrain 94” and “Legacies of Forced Migration” art projects in partnership with Binghamton University’s Material and Visual Worlds Transdisciplinary Area of Excellence. “Hostile Terrain 94” seeks to memorialize and bear witness to the humanitarian crisis at the U.S./Mexico Border that has claimed the lives of thousands of people since the 1990s. “Legacies of Forced Migration” highlights the stories of indigenous Maya refugees forced to migrate north from Guatemala. There will be a talk given by ethnographer, Dr. Oscar Gil-Garcia and artist, Manuel Gil, at 6:30PM about their work on this project.

5PM – 7PM: Jules Gotay will be present in the “Word and Image” art exhibition to talk about his pieces with visitors.
